ProteaGel Ready-to-Run Solutions

ProteaGels ‘ready-to-run’ SDS polyacrylamide solutions polymerize into an advanced molecular sieve for the electrophoretic separation of proteins. Because of the advanced buffer chemistry used in the gel matrix solution, ProteaGels allow a single separating gel. A stacking gel is not required, as the ProteaGel proprietary formulation inherently stacks the protein samples during the normal electrophoresis run. Band resolution is unparalleled over a molecular range of 2.5 to 250 kDa. The new hybrid formulation of ProteaGels gives these gels an increased gel strength allowing easier handling.

Choosing PAGE Gel Concentration for Resolving the Protein of Interest
Polyacrylamide gels can be formed with varying pore sizes for a wide range of protein separation. The size of the pores is dependent on the amount of total acrylamide per unit volume and the percentage of cross-linker available. The smaller pore size (higher percent acrylamide gel, e.g. 15%) is beneficial for separation of low molecular weight proteins and the larger pore size (lower percent acrylamide gel, e.g. 5%) is beneficial for separation of high molecular weight proteins.

The use of protein migration charts will aid in the selection of gel type that offers the optimum resolution of the protein of interest.
