Product Description
Silver staining of proteins is a useful technique for the detection of minor protein components that are difficult to visualize by standard Coomassie blue stains. Silver stain is 50 to 100 fold more sensitive than Coomassie and thus capable of detecting nanogram quantities (~2 ng) of protein on gels in comparison to Coomassie stains (20 - 40ng).
The Protea Silver Stain formulation is unique in that the staining process can be completed in about 35 minutes (including the 15 min. fixing step) without sacrificing the sensitivity of detection. In addition, the silver stain kit is compatible with MALDI analysis, especially when used in conjunction with our sliver destaining reagent.

Product Data Sets
A 10% ProteaGel SDS-PAGE separation of a dilution series of an E. coli lysate, visualized with Protea’s Silver Stain Kit (# SS-100-Kit). Lane 1 contains Protea Protein Molecular Weight Markers (#MM-101), and lanes 2 to 5 contain 10.0, 5.0, 2.5, and 1.25mg total protein of E. coli lysate, respectively. This gel demonstates that ProteaGels’ unique formulation permits high resolution gel separations across broad molecular weight ranges (6.5 to 7200 kDa) without the need for a gradient or stacking gel.
